Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What are the system requirements for GEDIS Studio Desktop ?

A. GEDIS Studio works on Windows OSes from XP to Seven. A 32bit Java 6 runtime is required to run the GUI. You can run the generator engine from the command line without requiring Java. This way of generating data can be useful for scripting.

Q. What are the requirements for GEDIS Studio Online ?

A. GEDIS Studio Online is accessible from any Web browser supporting JavaScript. Best user experience will be achieved with Firefox 6.0+.

Q. Do I need administrative rights to install GEDIS Studio?

A. No. Administrator rights on your computer might be required to install GEDIS Studio in the Windows main "Program Files" directory. But you can install GEDIS Studio at any location you prefer. The GEDIS_HOME environment variable will be set to point to that installation directory.

Q. Do I need Java JRE for generating data ?

A. No. The Java Runtime Environment is only required to work with the graphical user interface of GEDIS Studio Desktop. All is needed for the actual generation is the command line executable.

Q. Why GEDIS Studio doesn't find my license?

A. A license file is a binary file to be found in the licenses subfolder of the installation folder. If you received a license file from us, make sure that it wasn't modified by your mailer client and that you save that file in the license subfolder with all write permission.

GEDIS Studio will scan the folder %GEDIS_HOME%/licenses for all the .dat files and register all the licenses in that folder. The first time GEDIS Studio found a new license file it requires the write permission to sign it. Only a signed license can work for data generation.

Q. What is the challenge file?

A. The challenge file contains a key we use to generate a personal license. Every GEDIS Studio license is attached to a specific computer, if you need to install your copy of GEDIS Studio to another computer you should ask our sales team first to request another license.
